We are just taking a little break from packing and loading. Thus far we are pleasantly surprised at how much we have been able to fit into the cars. This is a good thing, as we are quickly coming to the realization that we are going to be taking more stuff than we originally planned.
By the way, these part couple entries have been done on my cell phone. It has taken ahile to get them typed, but I now know that I will be able to update from the road the next couple of days.
More later.

Well, it's about time for us to hit the road. Holly and I just want to thank all of you for your well wishes and the parties over the past week. It is wonderful to know that we have so many people behind us as we set out on this ''adventure''. Stay tuned, we're going to have lot's of updates over the next few days!

Need a house?
Well, the house is pretty much ready. We do need to slap some new paint in the bedrooms - but that will only take a half day - so if you need a house, or know someone that does, we have one that's ready to go.
I've had a couple questions from people regarding the state seal on the flag. Both Iowa and Illinois have eagles on their flags - hardly original, but Virginia has this.
A dude, with a sword, standing over a vanquished foe in a way that suggests "HA! I totall PWNED you!" I think I am beginning to like this state more and more.
First a state bat - now a state apple. It's still taking some getting used to seeing things like "George Washington and Thomas Jefferson LOVED these, and they were brought over by settlers in 1666." As I've told others, when folks out there say "George Washington slept here," they mean it!

Nothing is certain but taxes and taxes.
Ben Franklin was slightly off when he made his famous "death and taxes" quip. Obviously, he had never tried to register a vehicle with the Virginia DMV.
I just ran along this little goodie while researching what we will need to do to get our cars registered in the state:
Beginning July 1, 2008, customers are urged to avoid renewing vehicle registrations (decals) in Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) customer service centers (CSC) where a $5 service fee will be added under a new Virginia law.
Yes, you read that right. In Iowa - if you send in, they charge you a fee for having to deal with the postage, paperwork and whatnot. In Virginia, they charge five bucks just to go renew your plates in person.
Stupendous.
Also, in totally unrelated news - Virginia has an official State Bat. That's kinda cool, in my opinion.

The beginning
Well, here it is Marcy, Liz, Hannah, Amy, Courtney (geez, I sound like a womanizer)... The beginning of the adventures of Holly and Adam in the great Commonwealth of Virginia (motto: we're so cool, we don't even have to call ourselves a state!)
